Minutes of General Membership Meeting
                                               March 3, 2008
                                      Kapolei Golf Course

Call to Order

            The meeting was called to order by President Marcia Lee at 9:00 a.m.  Marcia welcomed the ladies to the first general meeting of the year and wished them all a “Happy Girl’s Day.”   Marcia then introduced the 2008 HSWGA Board Members and Committee Chairs.  Vice President Carol Adarna, Membership Chair Grace Wilson, Junior Liaison Sally Harper, and HSWGA Foundation Liaison Bev Kim were absent.  All other Board Members were present. 

            Marcia presented a lei to long-time Board member Betty Nakasone for all her years of dedicated service.  Although Betty was not on the Board at the end of 2007, she still handled the “Most Improved Golfer” applications, so we know we can still count on her assistance. 

Secretary’s Minutes

            Minutes of the November 26, 2007 General Meeting had been sent to all Board members as well as to all HSWGA Member Clubs. It was moved by June Saito and seconded by Sheila Kim that the minutes be approved as distributed.  Motion passed.

Mini-tournaments

            The first mini tournament would be held immediately after the meeting at Kapolei Golf Course.  The schedule of  tournaments is out and are as follows:  April 21st at Waikele – 7:24 a.m. ; June 30th at Navy Marine – 8:30 a.m. ; August 25th at Olomana – 10:00 a.m. ; and the last one on October 20 at Pearl Country Club – 7:54 a.m.    HSWGA is looking for volunteers to chair a mini tournament.  Please see Marcia or Carol Adarna to volunteer.  The Senior Women’s Championship is scheduled for September 22nd at Olomana. 

Treasurer’s Report

            Treasurer Kathy Ordway reported that $15,000 has been transferred to a CD account.  There is $2500 in a money market and approximately $10,000 in the checking account.  Thirty-seven clubs have paid their membership dues to date.  Report filed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Course Ratings
Susan Church reported that Course Ratings are on hold.  Her team will work with the men’s course rating team and should begin around May. 

Hole-in-Ones
June Saito reported that there were 24 reported Aces in 2007, including two that were from November and December of 2006.  There have been 4 reported so far this year.  January 18 – Betty Nakasone at Fort Shafter ;  February 12 – Kathy Ordway at Mid Pac;  February 17 – Lily Yao at Navy Marine; and February 18 – Betty Roth at BayView.

Handicap
“Most Improved Golfer” awards tabled to end of meeting.  List of tournaments that should be reported as t-scores was distributed in packet.  Ladies were asked to share this listing with their clubs. 

Membership
HSWGA is looking to increase their membership.  If any of the ladies know of a club that might be interested in joining, they were asked to contact Grace Wilson, Membership Chair. 

Rules
USGA Rules Seminar to be held later this month.  HSWGA will be represented by Helen Higa, Marcia Lee, Susan Church, and Kathy Ordway. 

  Kathy Ordway briefly explained the 2008 Revisions to the Rules of Golf.   She also showed the ladies a poster that may be borrowed to help discuss the rules.  Contact Kathy if your club is interested.

  Discussion followed regarding Hole #14 at Kapolei.  John Harmon, Waialae’s pro, helped to clear up concerns over how the hole should be played.  Thank you, John, for your attendance and assistance. 

President’s Comments
Marcia emphasized the need for the ladies to post t-scores.  She advised that there were Rules books, Handicap books, and Decisions books available for purchase.  She asked the ladies to assist in selling the books to their club members.

New Business
Applications for the Jennie K Tournament should be out by March 17.  Entry fee for the tournament is $180. and applicants should have a handicap index of 21.0.

Most Improved Golfers for 2007

            Barbara Schroeder and Betty Nakasone presented certificates and leis to all of the ladies who had received the distinction from their club.  They also presented the State’s Most Improved Golfer Award to Valerie Ing of Hawaii Ladies Golf Association.  See the HSWGA website for photos. 

Adjournment
Sunita Nepo moved that the meeting be adjourned.  Seconded by June Saito.  Meeting adjourned at 10:07 a.m.
